“As a documentary photographer and street photographer, the most honest stories are often found in the spaces we pass through every day.”
— Andrew Kececi
My latest project, the In Your Face Melbourne Zine, is the culmination of months spent navigating the grit, the humor, and the “not so candid” theatre of our city streets.
The Vision
This wasn’t just about taking photos; it was about capturing the pulse of Melbourne. I wanted to move past the standard postcard shots and get “in your face” with the reality of urban life. From the chaotic energy of the CBD to the quiet, cinematic moments in the suburbs, this zine is my personal interpretation of life in motion.
The Gear: From Fujifilm to Leica
While I have recently transitioned my workflow to Leica, the images within In Your Face were captured during my time with the Fujifilm X Series. For this specific zine, that gear was critical; the tactile control and discrete profile of the X Series allowed me to blend into the Melbourne CBD, capturing the raw ‘frozen moments’ that define this collection. My journey has since evolved, but these frames remain a testament to the creative freedom those tools provided during the making of this project.
A Growing Community
I’ve been overwhelmed by the recent support for my work—from the local street photography community to reaching milestones like having my perspective acknowledged by industry publishers. That encouragement is exactly what drove me to release this edition under a pay-what-you-want model. I want this art to be accessible to everyone who shares a passion for the street.
